SE Group recently completed a strategic master plan to guide the transformation of the city‐owned and operated ski area into a year‐round mountain destination. Situated in the northern city of Akureyri, the master plan increases the extent of the ski area, as well as adds four‐season attractions to position Hlidarfjall to capture destination skier visitation from the UK and Scandinavia, as well as summer visitors that arrive on one of the many cruise ships that come into the city’s port every summer.

A new gondola will allow skiers access to significant expansion terrain, and in the summer will take guests to the top of the mountain, affording spectacular views of Akureyri, the fjords, and the surrounding mountains and snow fields. On‐mountain accommodations will allow destinations visitors the ski in/ski out convenience of staying at the resort.
