SE GROUP has been responsible for all mountain planning and design at Tamarack Resort, in Idaho, since it was originally conceived in the late 1980’s. SE prepared the original Mountain Master Plan, which formed the basis for the current ski area development. We have worked very closely with the management team at Tamarack in making refinements to the original master plan, undertaking field reconnaissance and layout, and implementing the mountain development. A significant component in the master planning and design of Tamarack was the integration of the 2,800-vertical foot ski area with the village and residential development at the foot of the mountain. Ski in/ski out access trails were incorporated into the trail network to create a seamless connection from the slopes to the guests’ doorsteps. The lift layout was conceived to provide direct, one-lift access from the village to all of the upper-mountain lifts, and runs were designed so that guests can ski directly to the village from the top of any and all lifts. Tamarack’s mountain is characterized by long, rolling slopes with varied forest cover. These natural attributes contribute to the design of endless, winding and inter-connected trails down the fall-line that are appealing to all types of skiers and create an aesthetic backdrop from Idaho State Highway 55, a designated scenic byway across Lake Cascade from the resort.
