Resort Master Plan
Broughton Landing will evolve from a historic former lumber mill into the Columbia River Gorge’s premier outdoor recreation oriented resort. SE GROUP is working for the property owner in close coordination with other key stakeholders to implement this vision. Broughton Landing’s 260-acre project site is one of the top windsurfing locations in the world, located in the center of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. Development within the National Scenic Area is heavily regulated by the multi-agency Columbia River Gorge Commission, which itself is overseen by the U.S. Forest Service and closely monitored by the conservation group Friends of the Columbia River Gorge. On the client’s behalf, SE GROUP is working closely with each of these agencies and organizations to ensure that the planning process is inclusive and expeditious. SE GROUP planners and designers have led a team of economists, architects, archeologists and engineers in the creation of a plan to redevelop the abandoned mill complex into a new resort community. Comprised of approximately 245 vacation homes and recreational amenities supported by restaurants, retail and outdoor activities, Broughton Landing will serve the outdoor recreation needs resort guests, locals and visitors alike. The resort’s context-sensitive design will provide views of the river and gorge from most units while visually integrating the proposed development into the landscape.
