In 1994, SE Group collaborated with the architecture, design and planning firm of Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo (WATG) to produce a resort master plan for Oak Valley, Korea. Oak Valley Resort is located two hours from Seoul, and has now developed into a complete all season eco-resort, providing a wide range of guest facilities, services and recreational opportunities.
In 2004, Hansol Development Company was prepared to implement the ski area component of its master plan in order to complete the resort’s year-round recreational offering. Due to limited land resources, combined with a revised development program that added a fifth golf course to the resort, it became necessary to combine the final golf course and the ski area on one, common site. In order to accomplish this goal, SE Group worked in close coordination with Nicklaus Design to prepare a revised Mountain Master Plan and detailed grading plans that fully integrate the ski lifts and trails with the Nicklaus championship course. The final grading plans required the excavation of more than 4 million cubic meters of material.
The ski area at Oak Valley opened for operation in January of 2006.
